Deadly Bus Shelter

Police are investigating the suspicious death of a man found unconscious in a bus shelter at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Main Street yesterday evening.

The 57-year-old man was located at about 7 p.m. by emergency services, police said in a press release. He was unconscious and appeared to have suffered upper body injuries, police said.

The man was taken to hospital where he later died.

    The suspect brandished a black handgun, police said, and ordered the 32-year-old to his knees.

    He proceeded to rummage through the man’s backpack and then the girl’s purse, taking only a package of cigarettes, police said.

    A Winnipeg man has been found guilty of stabbing and sexually assaulting his former girlfriend after she spurned his repeated demands for anal sex.

    When she refused, Olenick attacked her, tied one of her hands to a stairway bannister and poked and slashed her body with a steak knife.

    She said Olenick released her when she agreed to cook for him but became angered again and forced her upstairs where he raped her.

    A 61-year-old store owner has been arrested and charged in the death of 29-year-old Geraldine Beardy. Police allege Beardy was confronted by the man, whose name has not been released by police, after she was caught trying to steal a can of luncheon meat worth $1.49 at a Sherbrook Street convenience store on Sept. 13.
